You don’t need fancy equipment or specialty ingredients to make smoothies that rock! I do have a few products that take my smoothie game up a notch or two, though, so I thought I’d outline those here. There’s also an entire Smoothie Lovers section in my Holiday Gift Guide!

  • Most of my smoothie recipes list Chia Seeds or Hemp Hearts as optional smoothie boosters. They blend in easily and add great nutrition to your drink! You can also add spinach to pretty much any smoothie.

Bright Smoothies Filled with Vitamin C

Making a smoothie with oranges is the perfect way to get that boost of vitamin C! I drink smoothies all year round and use them to give me and my kids the immunity boost we all need, even in the colder months. Oranges and kiwis are both high in vitamin C, which evidence suggests that in high doses might actually shorten a cold by as much as one and a half days. That’s some serious plant power!

Green Smoothies

Are you already in the green smoothie fan club? This has got to be the quickest way to feel like you’re getting a total detox in one glass! Most smoothies are made green with spinach, which blends easily, adds vibrant color, and can’t be tasted once it’s paired with any other flavors. Spinach is high in vitamins C, K, and A. It also has folate, manganese, magnesium, and iron. I especially love putting bright and sweet fruits like pineapple, mango, or apple into green smoothies! With a little bit of ginger everything just sings.

Berry Smoothies

Berry smoothies are total classics! Everyone loves a smoothie with strawberries or blueberries, and they have so many health benefits that I add them in whenever I can. Blueberries are free of fat, sodium, and cholesterol while being high in vitamin C and K as well as manganese and fiber, and strawberries are high in vitamin C and a great source of folate. I love how well frozen berries blend into these vegan smoothie recipes!

Pink & Purple

I mostly just wanted an excuse to line up some of my brightest, happiest smoothie photos! Doesn’t that row of bright pink just make you smile? These smoothies are fabulously colored thanks to fruits and veggies that POP! This is a guaranteed way to make my kids smile and gulp down the entire drink.

Smoothies That Taste Like Dessert

Do you ever make a smoothie for dessert? These recipes will convince you it’s possible and totally satisfying! I really, really love creating smoothie recipes that taste like your favorite indulgence. Whether it’s candy, pie, birthday cake, or even the popular minty Shamrock Shake, I have tons of fun smoothie recipes that satisfy your sweet tooth.

Chocolate Smoothies

I love chocolate so much, I couldn’t keep it out of my smoothies! This is one of my favorite ways to enjoy a smoothie. Chocolate makes my smoothie taste like a dessert, but it’s even better because I also know I’m getting important nutrients from veggies, nuts, and seeds! Years of nutrition research show that chocolate may provide health benefits from antioxidants called flavanols found in the cocoa solids (as opposed to the cocoa butter). These flavanols help with circulation, cognitive abilities, lung health, and even a decreased risk of serious illnesses like diabetes and several types of cancer. Basically…let’s blend some chocolate into that smoothie!
