This easy mango avocado smoothie is deliciously sweet and ultra creamy. Made from just frozen mango, avocado, dates, plant-based milk and a touch of vanilla, this nut-free recipe uses whole ingredients, provides a nutritious boost and is ready in minutes!

As crazy as it sounds, this creamy smoothie recipe actually originated from sushi. My kids are all obsessed with sushi and their absolute favorite roll is avocado with mango. The fruity mango taste paired with the creamy avocado creates the perfect combination that is both refreshing and satisfying. You have to try it!
It got me thinking about what other ways I can take advantage of this delicious combo. I've always enjoyed it in dishes like quinoa salad, tacos and salsa. But what about something more dessert-like to take advantage of its luxurious creaminess?
The answer - mango avocado smoothie! Frozen mango and ripe avocado both get super creamy when blended, giving this refreshing drink a vibe that reminds me of thick vanilla soft-serve ice cream, almost like a mousse. It is basically a mashup of my pineapple mango smoothie and my avocado vanilla smoothie. I'll be making this on repeat!

Ingredients
Achieving superstar creamy status usually requires some form of greek yogurt, nuts or bananas, but that's not the case here! Frozen fruit and fresh avocado do just the trick for this thicker smoothie.
All you need are 5 simple ingredients that can be found easily at the grocery store. See the recipe card at the end of the post for quantities.
- Avocado: this is used primarily for the creamy texture. Given its mild flavor, there is no avocado taste once blended into the smoothie.
- Frozen mango: I buy a bag of unsweetened frozen mango chunks - it's much easier (and a lot cheaper) than cutting and freezing fresh mango on your own.
- Plant-based milk: I prefer unsweetened almond milk but oat milk works just as well for a nut-free option. You could try coconut milk for a more tropical spin too.
- Medjool dates: adds sweetness.
- Vanilla extract
- Ice cubes
How to Make a Mango Avocado Smoothie
Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Done! Pour into two glasses and enjoy immediately while cold.
Recipe Tips
Don't add too much ice. I was very intentional about using 1 cup of ice in this mango avocado smoothie recipe. Adding more would give it an icy, slushy texture rather than the desired smooth and creamy consistency.
Add spinach for greens and color. Spinach is rich in vitamins A, C and K as well as iron, folate and potassium. Adding spinach in this recipe won't affect the taste so it is a great way to get some greens in! It will also change the color from an off-white yellow to a more vibrant green smoothie. The vitamin C-rich mango in this smoothie helps with the iron absorption from the spinach so it is the perfect combination.
Variations and Additions
Make it tropical: use coconut milk or add fresh lime juice for a more tropical vibe that makes for the perfect mocktail (or cocktail)!
Give it a protein boost: feel free to add chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds or protein powder for some extra protein to enjoy as an afternoon snack or after a workout.
Health Benefits of Mango
Mangoes are particularly rich in vitamin C and folate, in addition to providing dietary fiber, potassium and vitamin A. Its antioxidants boost the immune system as well as reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.
Health Benefits of Avocado
Avocados are known for their healthy fats, but they also contain dietary fiber, potassium and vitamins C, E and B6 among other nutrients. Nutrients such as carotenoids and monosaturated fats, both of which are found in avocados, have been associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases (source).
