  1. Pick it up – it should feel heavy for its size (means it is full of water).
  2. Inspect it – It should be firm, symmetrical and free of bruises, cuts or dents in the rind.
  3. Look at the underside of the melon – it should have a creamy yellow spot from where it sat on the field and ripened in the sun.
  4. Sniff it – a sweet aroma means a sweeter melon!

A brilliant red interior indicates a sweet melon.
