What is Chermoula Sauce?

This is the main sauce or marinade used in Mediterranean cooking. It’s a delicious blend of fresh herbs, spices, and fresh lemon. It’s zesty and flavorful and SO delicious! When cooked it has a tangy, citrusy taste that makes any dish sing.

Get ready for fragrant, fresh ingredients! This is the most delightful combination of herbs and flavors. I love it on almost any savory dish! Having a jar of Chermoula Sauce in the refrigerator ensures that all of my savory dishes taste incredible.

  • Olive oil – Use high quality if you can! I love Pomora and even have a 25% off coupon: EBE25
  • Lemon – Use a large, juicy lemon! You’ll both zest and juice it.
  • Cilantro
  • Parsley
  • Garlic
  • Cumin
  • Salt
  • Optional: a splash of pure maple syrup. This adds a subtle sweetness that I think is a really nice balance here!

The hardest part of this recipe is gathering all of the ingredients. After that, it’s just pulsing it in the blender until you achieve your desired consistency! I like a thicker, slightly chunky chermoula that’s just right for drizzling over or mixing into my favorite dishes.

How to Use Chermoula Sauce

Many people use chermoula as a meat marinade, but as a vegan I use it mostly on veggies! It’s delicious mixed into salads, pastas, or quinoa. I often drizzle it on roasted or grilled veggies, and it is excellent paired with my vegan sour cream sauce for dipping.

Notes

I love to use this sauce with green leafy salads, roasted or grilled veggies, pasta salad, quinoa salads, overtop hummus or paired with vegan sour cream.  It is also a fun addition to wraps and soups.  Warm toasty bread dipped it in is heavenly!

You can also add a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat or a drop of maple syrup for a little sweetness.

Try adding in some fresh mint too!
