This creamy and flavorful sesame ginger tahini dressing is nutty and sweet with a hint of tang and spice as well. Made by whisking together just a handful of ingredients, it takes only 5 minutes to make and can be enjoyed overtop salads or used as a sauce for stir fries, summer rolls or any other Asian-inspired dishes. This dressing is naturally vegan, soy-free, nut-free and gluten-free.
I am so excited to share this addictive peanut sauce-like dressing recipe with you all. For a long time I've had to shy away from Asian cuisine because of my allergies to soy, peanuts and gluten, but since perfecting this tahini sauce recipe it has re-opened that door!
I am obsessed with everything about this dressing and it is so incredibly simple to make! I have been tinkering with the recipe for months and using versions of it in a variety of vegan dishes (i.e., as a dipping sauce for summer rolls, a stir fry sauce, a creamy dressing for my Thai quinoa salad) and am now at the point where I feel it deserves its own home on the blog.
There is so much flavor packed into each bite - it's nutty, sweet, spicy and tangy all at the same time. And the best part? You can control the consistency to serve as a somewhat thick dipping sauce or thin it out into a pourable delicious dressing, instantly making anything it touches more satisfying and tasty.
Why You'll Love this Tahini Ginger Dressing:
- Quick and easy - uses simple ingredients and ready in 5 minutes!
- Addictive - creamy texture with tons of flavor
- Healthy and nutritious
- Allergy-friendly - peanut-free, nut-free, soy-free, gluten-free and vegan
- Versatile - use as a dressing for crunchy salads, a sauce for buddha bowls or grain bowls, or even as a dip for roasted seasonal vegetables!
Ingredients
- Tahini - the main ingredient! Use smooth, runny tahini for best results. Soom (not sponsored) is my favorite brand of tahini because their jars don't get dry or chalky at the bottom.
- Lime juice - provides a little tang.
- Maple syrup - adds a hint of sweetness.
- Toasted sesame oil - for a nutty and savory sesame flavor.
- Toasted sesame seeds - adds more nutty flavor.
- Garlic - fresh garlic adds a little kick.
- Salt - to bring out all the flavors
- Ginger - I prefer grating fresh ginger but ground ginger works as well.
- Water - used to thin out the consistency as needed.
See the recipe card at the end of this blog post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.

What is Tahini?
Tahini, often referred to as Mediterranean peanut butter, is a smooth paste made from ground sesame seeds. It is frequently used in hummus because of its rich, nutty flavor and creamy, almost buttery texture.
Tahini is a great source of plant-based protein in addition to fiber, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, iron and calcium. It also contains vitamin B and a number of antioxidants.
