This is the ultimate vegan version of the classic chocolate milkshake - thick, creamy and perfectly chocolatey yet made with simple, wholesome ingredients. No mixes or additives, just creamy chocolate vanilla frostiness in a glass!

I wanted to keep the nostalgic flavor of a chocolate milkshake but make it better for you and naturally sweetened. Instead of ice cream or refined sugar, this milkshake gets its sweetness from soft Medjool dates which offer natural caramel-like sweetness in addition to being nutritious. I also add a touch of maple syrup for extra sweetness and a more authentic milkshake flavor.
To make it luxuriously creamy, I use raw cashews that blend right in, creating that perfect dairy-free milkshake texture. Cocoa powder gives it a rich, authentic chocolate flavor (you can also use cacao powder for an extra nutritional boost, but I personally find cocoa powder has a more classic taste). A splash of vanilla brings balance and sweetness, and a tiny pinch of salt makes the chocolate flavor pop (don't skip it)!
The ice is key here: You want to use just enough to create that frosty milkshake consistency. We want it thicker than a chocolate protein shake but thinner than a chocolate smoothie. This one is a true dessert - smooth, sweet and totally satisfying!

Ingredients

Simply blend and serve. Then top with a swirl of my vegan whipped cream and garnish with shaved chocolate curls, mini vegan chocolate chips or a drizzle of vegan chocolate syrup. You really can't go wrong with this!

Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- ¼ cup raw cashews
- 6 large pitted soft Medjool dates
- 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (I like the Whole Foods 365 brand)
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp salt
- 2-3 cups ice (depending on how frosty you like it)
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients until perfectly smooth and creamy.
- Serve immediately in 2-3 glasses.
- Top with coconut whipped cream and garnish with mini chocolate chips!
