This playful twist on chocolate covered strawberries might just become your new favorite treat. Instead of dipping whole strawberries into melted chocolate, you chop the strawberries into tiny pieces and scoop them up with thin chocolate discs. It feels like chips and salsa but in dessert form (it's sweet, not savory). No wonder it went viral on TikTok!

Strawberries and chocolate have always been the perfect combo. The juicy berry sweetness paired with the richness of dark chocolate never gets old. I love the classic chocolate covered strawberries, but they can get soggy pretty quickly. This version keeps everything fresh, plus it makes for a fun interactive dessert. Everyone can create their own perfect bite, adding as much chocolate or strawberry as they like!
It's also incredibly simple as you only need two main ingredients: fresh, firm strawberries and dark chocolate. I love using Hu gems (not sponsored) because they melt beautifully in the microwave without needing to add coconut oil. A splash of maple syrup and a pinch of salt are optional, but they really make the sweet strawberry flavor pop.
This simple recipe is perfect for family nights, parties or even just a gourmet romantic date night at home. My kids will fight over the strawberries so I always divide it up into individual bowls when serving to them!

How to Make Strawberry Chips and Salsa

1. Make the chocolate "chips." Melt vegan dark chocolate in a bowl in the microwave, then stir until smooth. Scoop the melted chocolate onto parchment paper in ½ teaspoon portions to create little discs (I usually get about 36). Chill for about 15 minutes until firm.
My added twist: I like to add ¼ cup crispy quinoa to the melted chocolate before portioning out. It adds the perfect subtle crunch and makes it feel more substantial like a chip!

2. Make the strawberry "salsa." Finely chop the strawberries (a veggie chopper works great!) and mix with maple syrup and salt. I like to mix everything together right in the chopper to save an extra dish. If chopping by hand (just a bit more tedious), aim for very small pieces so it scoops easily.

3. Serve. Scoop up the strawberry "salsa" with the chocolate "chips" and enjoy!

Recipe Tips for Best Results
- For melting the chocolate: Make sure the bowl is completely dry. Even just the tiniest bit of moisture in the bowl can cause the chocolate to seize up and get a little chunky. This holds true for condensation as well when using a double broiler if it gets into the chocolate. We don't want any moisture.
- For finely chopping the strawberries: Slice them vertically first, then turn them horizontally on the grid of the veggie chopper before pushing them through. This helps avoid long rectangular strands and keeps the salsa texture just right.
- Serve shortly after preparing: Strawberries release more juice the longer they sit, so while it's perfectly fine to make the chocolate discs a few hours in advance, I recommend making the "salsa" just before serving.

Fun Variations
- Add extras to the chocolate. Mix in crispy quinoa for a little crunch or peanut or almond butter for a bit more decadent flavor.
- Make chocolate bark instead of individual discs. Save time by pouring the melted chocolate onto a parchment-lined sheet pan and then once it sets, breaking it into bark pieces. It's faster and creates more rustic chocolate "chips."
- Top the "salsa" with coconut whipped cream for a creamy finish!

This dessert is quick, playful and lets everyone customize each bite. It looks beautiful on the table and is always a hit. If you give it a try, please let me know how you liked it and what fun add-ins you used!

Ingredients
- 1 cup vegan chocolate chips, melted (about ½ cup once melted)
- 1 lb strawberries, hulled and finely chopped
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- ⅛ tsp fine salt
- optional: ¼ cup crispy quinoa
Instructions
- Make the chocolate "chips." Melt the chocolate in a completely dry bowl in the microwave for 1.5-2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Add the crispy quinoa if using and stir again. Spoon about ½-3/4 teaspoon of the melted chocolate onto parchment paper and use the back of the measuring spoon to swirl into a thin disc about 2 inches wide. Freeze for about 15 minutes until set. For sturdier chips, double the amount or stack two discs together when serving.
