Description

This matzo crack is an easy no-bake Passover dessert that everyone loves. It turns bland matzo into an addicting dessert with two amazing layers: caramel and dark chocolate. Sprinkle flaky sea salt overtop and you have a candy bar-like dessert that will disappear quickly at the Seder!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 matzo squares

The "caramel" layer:

  • 2/3 cup raw creamy almond butter (I like Trader Joe's the best)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
The chocolate layer:
  • 1 cup vegan chocolate chips, melted

For garnish:

  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Place matzo squares on a rimmed baking sheet lined with a sheet of parchment paper. Create a single layer of matzo where they are touching but not overlapping. Break up the matzo to fit if needed to cover the entire pan.
  2. Prepare the caramel mixture. Microwave coconut oil for one minute to melt. In a medium mixing bowl add the almond butter, maple syrup, melted coconut oil, vanilla and salt. Stir until everything is well combined.
  3. Pour caramel mixture overtop the matzo layer. Spread it out with a rubber spatula into one even layer.
  4. Place sheet pan into the freezer for 20 minutes to set.
  5. Melt the chocolate. Microwave the chocolate chips for 2 minutes until smooth and liquid.
  6. Pour chocolate overtop the caramel layer. Quickly spread the chocolate with a rubber spatula into one even layer.
  7. Garnish with flaky sea salt on top of the chocolate layer if desired.
  8. Place sheet pan in the freezer for 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
  9. Serve! Break into smaller squares for serving. The caramel layer will begin to melt at room temperature after about 30 minutes so return to the freezer if not serving immediately.
